St. Stephens Creative Learning Center was established in 2005 with the help of the former pastor of St. Stephens A.M.E. Church. He saw the need for a better education for the children of the Essex community, so he contacted a former school principal who knew the importance of early education and closely studied various programs of repute that produced successful results. Since its inception, St. Stephens has been a bright light in the community and has grown from a beginning Kindergarten class of six students to a school that teaches Kindergarten through the fifth grade, with plans to expand to eighth grade in the future!
St. Stephens Creative Learning Center is a non-profit private, Christian elementary school that was created with the mission to help the children of Essex receive the education they deserve. Our one true goal, more than anything else, is to help children see success in their learning environment. We want students to believe in themselves as much as we believe in them. We make sure every academic need is met, so no child is left alone to struggle.
We work to instil Christian teachings in our lessons along with academics because to be spiritually sound is to be strong! Our faith in the Lord helps us motivate our students, and through Him they grow confidence in themselves. Students that used to have issues with underperforming or being disruptive are now at peace because they get the attention they need to succeed. At St. Stephens, we offer low tuition, scholarship options, grants, and accept vouchers. Your child truly matters to us at St. Stephens and so does their future. We are a non-discriminating Christian academy that accepts everyone and caters to all our students equally.
We work on raising your child’s potential and increasing their view of themselves, the world, and God. St. Stephens Creative Learning Center is a safe haven for our students for Pre-Academy, before and after school care, and during school hours. They will always be with competent, caring, and knowledgeable teachers and staff. Our curriculum teaches spirituality and academics, but we also stress the importance of respect, civility, and understanding. SSCLC is with you and your child every step of the way for their early education experience.
At SSCLC, we try to make an outstanding Christian education as affordable as possible. Through a partnership with St. Stephens AME Church, we are able to keep tuition relatively low.
We believe in the importance of parent involvement and fostering strong relationships with the Essex community—the parents of SSCLC do too! Many parents of our students are involved in our Parent Teacher Coalition (PTC) and work very hard to help us make SSCLC the great academy that it is today.
St. Stephens is a religious elementary school with a focus on faith-based learning and higher education. We work to prepare our students for higher learning and to be better prepared as they move up in their learning experience. Our school provides many benefits, such as:
